Sometimes, you do a favor for someone, something so easy for you that you almost forget that it was a favor. A mere hiccup in your day. But the person you do it for is so appreciative - so out of proportion grateful it’s sort of embarrassing. And that’s what happened, I did a small favor and was thanked very generously with a gift card to Bob Evans.
I found myself up in the Exton area with my daughter-in-law on some family business. Our errand took a little longer than we expected and we were starving as we drove north on Rt. 100. There was a convergence of heaven and earth as I realized I had the gift card in my Talbot’s classic pocketbook at the exact moment we saw the red roof of the restaurant and as if by magic, in seconds we were inside looking at a HUGE menu.
Daughter-in-Law made some rather obvious statements about the average age of the diners. She suggested that if I caved in and finally got my AARP card, we could be getting more for our money. Okay - that might be true. Maybe next birthday I will. Back to the food.
Daughter-In-Law was thrilled to find she could order breakfast: Cinnamon Creme Stacked and Stuffed Pancakes which tasted like, as she put it, “boston creme pie with cinnamon and a drizzle of extra happiness.” As if these huge tasty cakes were not enough food, she got a side of scrambled eggs and sausage links. She asked for scrapple, but Bob Evans does not make scrapple and the mother company supplies all the breakfast meat, I guess. I was over the moon to see Chicken Fried Steak on the menu. It was crisp on the outside, generously sized, and tasty and peppery. It came with a REAL (really good!) mashed potato crater filled with country gravy (white gravy with pepper) and Country green beans: the kind your mom used to make - that taste slightly like the can they came in, with chunks of ham. Tastes way better than it sounds.

Our waitress Mindy was thoughtful and pleasant, and asked us frequently if everything was okay and if we wanted more soda. She suggested we also try something called Apple Pie Fries. Imagine- mozzarella sticks, only apple pie. I know! It sounds odd, but is tasty, served with a caramel sauce for dipping. Sort of a dessert, but fried. Who thought of this? I’m not sure I would go back just for these, but they were fun to try and kids might really like them.

What You Need To Know Before You Go:
Rating: YMMMY (out of a possible YMMMMMY)
Bring: Cash and credit/debit cards accepted.
You can get a very nice lunch for 6.00 = 15.00. Because we had a gift card for $25.00, we didn’t watch the price, and lunch came to 37.00 including a 20% tip.
Family Friendly – and it is! I have no idea why people think only retirees eat here. The menu is very family friendly with a huge selection and breakfast all day!!!
They do catering, check them out.
Casual Atmosphere, whatever you are wearing is fine.
Completely friendly service and I need to mention that there was a certain PRIDE vibe coming from the nice little woman who seated us and the waitress - and that is something that you don’t find everywhere.
