Quick Up Date from China: Eating Out
From my future niece-in-law, who travels the world doing good works - this just in from China:
“Funny update -
So, the weirdest things I’ve eaten to date:- bamboo and jelly fish…
not a fan of jelly fish, it moves even when dead and is really slimy (though I had no idea what this was when attempting to cook it in my hot pot - a pot of boiling soup where you put raw ingredents in and cook it yourself, kinda like fondu, though each person has their own pot with a flame underneath). T I thought the bamboo was tasty. Reminds me of marinated artichoke hearts…
Tonight was a funny dinner. My two colleagues and I (boss from Sri Lanka and work partner from Thailand) could not read the menu, speak chinese and the waiter could not talk much english. Our solution - we drew pictures on napkins and made animal noises (ok my collagues did this, I could not refrain from laughing the entire time, about 5-10 minutes and it still makes me laugh to think about it!). I wish I had a video camera. What an experince.
Hope all is well with you back home”
